Academic General Pediatrics Training and Research

Members of the Division of Academic General Pediatrics educate a variety of learners (medical students, residents, fellows, high school students, undergraduate students, nursing students) in both inpatient (hospital, newborn nursery) and outpatient (Primary Care Clinic) settings.

The Vanderbilt Pediatric Primary Care Clinic serves as the main teaching site for the Vanderbilt Pediatrics Residency program. We have developed and annually update a standardized curriculum for residents, which includes a web-based, computer-assisted program for the primary care clinic and the newborn nursery. We update the handbooks for residents in both settings annually to serve as easy, evidence-based, at-a-glance tools.

The honors and teaching awards our faculty members have won reflect the excellence of our division's teaching. Our division members contribute to local leadership and implementation of pediatrics education for the Department and the School of Medicine. They involve themselves in such national organizations as the Association of Pediatric Program Directors, the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics, the Academic Pediatrics Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
