Newborn Nursery

The Newborn Nursery at Children's Hospital focuses on providing family-centered care to promote family and infant bonding. We care for healthy newborns and those with special medical needs. We are often able to offer additional services without transferring to an intensive care unit. Our lactation consultants provide prenatal education and consultations to new mothers.

Our healthcare team will examine your baby each day he or she is in the hospital, support maternal-child bonding, provide practical hands-on assistance to support breastfeeding, answer your questions about caring for your newborn and practice evidence-based medicine. We follow the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, and our newborn nursery faculty have additional breastfeeding training.

Our faculty provide pediatric care in both the newborn nursery and the Vanderbilt Pediatric Primary Care Clinic. This means we can be your child’s medical home from their time of birth. Our comprehensive outpatient services include breastfeeding support, postpartum depression screening and monitoring of common newborn issues. We have onsite interpreter services, and case management and social work services available if needed.

We look forward to being your baby's medical home from birth. Call us at (615) 936-2555 to establish care.
