Specialized Cardiac Anesthesiology Service

Overview

Children with heart problems need highly specialized anesthesia care. Our team has years of extra training and experience caring specifically for children undergoing heart surgery.

While delivering anesthetics, we monitor your child's vital functions, medical condition and consciousness level of consciousness. We continuously and vigilantly watch over your child to prevent problems and respond if they happen.

Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologists

Our anesthesiologists undergo a four-year training program after medical school. Those who care for cardiac surgery patients also complete a cardiac anesthesia fellowship, with concentration in pediatric cardiac care. All of our anesthesiologists are board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Pediatric Cardiac Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs)

Our anesthesiologists often receive assistance from a nurse anesthetist, a skilled registered nurse with training in anesthesia delivery and pharmacology. We carefully select our nurse anesthetists after they undergo a two-year concentrated study in anesthesia. At Children's Hospital, we select from a motivated group of nurse anesthetists and provide additional training in pediatric cardiac anesthesia.
