Complex Urinary and Bowel Issues
At Monroe Carell we understand that caring for children with bowel and urinary issues can be difficult for parents. Because these conditions are often complex, our team of medical and surgical experts works with your family through our unique Complex Urinary and Bowel Issues (CUBI) clinic.
Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Gastroenterology and Pediatric Urology physicians coordinate your child's care. You may meet with each of these physicians at your clinic visit. Our specially trained nurses help care for children with intestinal and urinary problems.
Our care coordinator will assist your family from your first consultation through surgery and follow-up.

Why Choose Complex Urinary and Bowel Care at Monroe Carell
- Coordinated care
The coordinated care you'll receive at the CUBI provides a single point of contact to schedule clinic visits, surgery and follow-up. Your child will benefit from the combined efforts of a team of pediatric surgeons, gastroenterologists, urologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, nurses and family support staff. This minimizes your travel demands and maximizes your connection to support services.
- Collaborative care
Children with imperforate anus or anorectal malformations may have other anomalies requiring specialized care. Our CUBI Clinic team may be directly involved in this care, or can help coordinate it. We work closely with the doctors managing anomalies of the spine, kidneys and urinary tract, heart, airway and esophagus, bones and digestive tract.
- Customized treatment plans
Children often need surgery to repair the issues we treat. The exact procedures and number of surgeries depend on the type and severity of your child's diagnosis. Our team includes surgeons experienced in the latest techniques to restore as much function as possible for your child. We formulate a customized treatment plan for each patient.
- Follow-up care
Our care doesn't end after surgery. Your child will receive ongoing follow-up visits for complex problems in the familiar and supportive environment of Monroe Carell.
