Nutrition and Intestinal Rehabilitation Program

Nutrition support is a key part of managing many diseases. Research studies show improved clinical outcomes when children have appropriate and timely nutritional support. The Nutrition and Intestinal Rehabilitation Clinic's team of doctors, nurses and dietitians improve the health of many sick children using custom nutrition plans and support. We also help families through nutrition education and participation in research studies.

Our team works closely with and has the support of our general surgeons, hospital pharmacists and social workers. We meet weekly to create individualized treatment plans for children requiring complex nutritional support. We treat children with challenging nutritional diseases that require hospitalization and follow up after discharge. Our care includes specialized plans for pre- and post-transplant cases.

During your child's visit, you will meet with a pediatric gastroenterologist and dietitian to help optimize your child's specialized nutrition plan. We also work closely with home nursing and infusion companies to help care for children with gastrostomy tube feedings and those requiring TPN (IV nutrition).

Our research interests include short bowel syndrome, lipid disorders, nutrition education and others. We are a member of the Pediatric Intestinal Failure Consortium (PIFCon), dedicated to the study of pediatric patients with intestinal failure (short bowel syndrome).
