Pediatric Lipid Clinic

The Pediatric Lipid Clinic specializes in treating lipid disorders such as very high cholesterol in children to avoid heart problems, or cardiovascular disease, later in life. Conditions treated may include very high levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

We treat children and adolescents from families with a history of heart conditions, as well as those who develop new cholesterol problems over time. Our care includes individualized counseling, evaluation and treatment with dietary and lifestyle management, and medication if needed.

Dietary changes to treat high cholesterol are important, but typically only lead to about a 20 percent improvement in childhood lipid disorders. In some cases, further treatment with medication is needed. That's why our medical approach is so important to identifying risks and preventing heart problems before they begin.

We see new patients up to age 18, and help transition those in their early twenties to adult care.
