Understanding that the doctor had just been rushed to this appointment from surgery, I tried to give some grace. However, the doctor did not try to engage the patient whatsoever or build rapport. The tone of her explanations was patronizing and lacked warmth. While procedures are done daily for her, she did not try to understand that this could be unfamiliar and confusing to the patient and parent. She checked her boxes of what she needed to inform us about- sure, but bedside manner was lacking. My question is, why would I trust this doctor to provide nurturing care to my son? I have no evidence for that. While she may be skilled, we're in the world of pediatrics, and connection is all the more crucial.

I highly appreciate the doctor explaining that in the future there are surgical options, but she doesn't think it will be needed. I appreciate the knowledge and the planning that was offered.
