Clinic Policies for Med-Peds Practice

The following policies ensure we provide you with the best care.

Appointments

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment. If you arrive late, we may ask you to reschedule. If we can see you that day, we will work you in so as to not inconvenience patients who arrive on time.

If you are unable to make an appointment, you must call to cancel. If you do not call, you will receive a “no-show” letter in the mail. If you miss three scheduled appointments without calling to cancel, we may be unable to continue to provide you with primary care services.

Walk-ins

Our clinic does not take walk-in patients. If you have an urgent issue, call the office. We will help with a same day appointment or provide proper advice. You also may consider one of Vanderbilt Health’s convenient care options.

Prescriptions

We only call in antibiotics prescriptions for patients who have been seen in our clinic. This helps ensure safe and appropriate care.

Please contact us at least two full business days before you need a medicine refilled. Call for refills only during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Controlled substances

We usually will not prescribe chronic narcotics or benzodiazepines at your first clinic visit. We will only consider requests for refills of these drugs during regular office hours. The on-call physician will not refill these medications at night or on weekends.

We do not mail prescriptions for controlled substances. We ask all patients on chronic narcotic therapy to sign a controlled substance contract. Breach of this contract will result in immediate dismissal from our clinic.

Paperwork

Your doctor may ask you to make an appointment to complete certain forms or letters. We only provide work excuses for acute illness for patients seen in our clinic at the time of the illness. Please allow two weeks for the doctor to complete paperwork.

Our doctors do not complete disability forms.

After hours

If you have an emergency after business hours or during the weekend, the on-call doctor will assist you.

Adolescent care

We believe that trust is very important for this age group. For this reason, we request the right to meet privately with adolescent patients during their office visit. We will not discuss medical issues with parents without permission from the patient unless the adolescent is in immediate danger to self or others.

We do not perform urine drug screenings.
