Pediatric Diabetes Program

The Diabetes Program at Monroe Carell is one of the largest pediatric diabetes centers in the nation. We care for more than 3,000 children with diabetes from Tennessee and eight surrounding states at the Vanderbilt Eskind Pediatric Diabetes Clinic; and locations in Franklin, Murfreesboro, Jackson, Clarksville and Cookeville. We provide a family-centered approach to managing diabetes.

Our doctors are trained and board certified to treat diabetes in children. Nurse practitioners, nurses and dietitians who are Certified Diabetes Educators are key members of the care team, along with social workers and child life specialists.

About a third of our doctors dedicated to treating pediatric patients with diabetes perform leading-edge research funded by the National Institutes of Health, JDRF, the ADA, private foundations and personal donations. Our goals are to improve the tools we use to treat Type 1 diabetes, and develop methods to predict, prevent, reverse and cure the disease.

    Recognized care

Vanderbilt is a Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet Clinical Center, funded by the National Institutes of Health. Using what we learn through clinical research, TrialNet works to prevent type 1 diabetes before it develops. We also learn to stop disease progression by preserving insulin production before and after diagnosis. Other clinical research helps us learn how families and teens cope emotionally with diabetes and how technology can assist your family to manage the disease.

  • journalism, book, Class options, Specialized assessments
    Recognized education

Our education program is the only pediatric program in middle Tennessee that meets the standards for recognition status by the American Diabetes Association.
