Childbirth and Lactation Resources

Overview

Childbirth and newborn care are very personal experiences. At Vanderbilt, we help you bond with your baby as strongly as possible in the first days after childbirth. We encourage you to keep your baby with you in the hospital to promote this important connection. We won't give you equipment, doctors or procedures you don't want. If your baby needs special or intensive care, we have one of the top neonatology programs in the nation for newborns and premature babies.

We also help you with breastfeeding through personal consultations and rental of breastmilk pumps. Our staff members are board certified lactation consultants and registered nurses.

Vanderbilt provides a support community that helps you manage the challenges of new parenthood. We continue to guide and educate you after you leave the hospital.

We talk about breastfeeding (pumping, milk storage, returning to work, air travel, weaning), starting babies on solid foods, infant massage, tummy time, safe sleep, car seat demonstrations, postpartum planning and more.

You will receive a meeting ID and passcode for Grow and Thrive on the day of your discharge from the birthing center.
