The Red Wagon Project
The Red Wagon Project is Monroe Carell’s volunteer program designed for students in grades K-12. Program participants serve as Red Wagon Team Captains and organize donation drives or service projects within their communities.
From pajama drives during school spirit week to collecting toiletries during a soccer tournament, each item gathered through The Red Wagon Project provides comfort and support for families experiencing hospitalization.
Beyond making a difference for patients and families, participating students learn the value of giving, develop teamwork skills, use creativity to design their project and gain insight into the hospital’s mission.
Why is it called the Red Wagon Project?
If you’ve ever walked the halls of Monroe Carell, you’ve likely seen patients being transported in bright red wagons. These wagons sparked the imagination of sisters Sara and Erin, who when they saw the red wagons, envisioned them filled with gifts for patients. They rallied friends to fill wagons with wish list items to support families during their hospital stays. Thus, The Red Wagon Project was born—a symbol of hope and generosity, and an avenue for the community’s youth to support patients at Monroe Carell.
