Learning that your child may need a kidney transplant can be an overwhelming experience. Since 1963, the Kidney Transplant Program at Children’s Hospital has been providing children with exceptional care, from initial consultation to to surgery to long-term follow-up. Our experience shows us that children who undergo kidney transplants tend to have a more active quality of life compared to children who stay on dialysis.
We will schedule an initial consultation after a referral from your child's doctor. This visit helps us determine the severity of your child’s condition and whether a transplant is needed. We will get to know you and your child, and you will have the opportunity to get to know us. During this visit, we will also answer your questions and together determine the next steps for your child’s care.
